Public Housing Authorities (PHAs), local governments, nonprofits, and for-profit developers that apply jointly with a public entity are eligible to apply for $3.6 million through HUD’s Choice Neighborhood Initiative Planning Grant. Funding can be used to support the development of comprehensive neighborhood revitalization plans which will transform these communities into viable, mixed-income neighborhoods by linking housing improvements with appropriate services, schools, public assets, transportation, and access to jobs. Applicants have until August 8, 2011 to apply for the Choice Neighborhoods Planning Grants. HUD anticipates awarding approximately 12 grants with a maximum award of $300,000 each.
