The fire department for the Town of Cary, NC, a TFG client since 2001, has joined with the fire departments in three other North Carolina communities to issue the Chief’s Energy Challenge, a nationwide program to encourage fire departments to track and reduce their energy use.
The goal of the program is to generate a 10 percent reduction in energy use the first year and a 20 percent reduction by the third year of participation in the initiative.
According to EPA: “…participating departments will be recognized in program materials, by network partners and by fire-related publications and organizations nationwide. All departments that sign up will receive window clings recognizing their participation and a public relations packet for use in their communities. They will also become part of a community to share best practices, lessons learned, and peer-to-peer education and networking on how to meet these energy goals.”
The first twenty departments to sign up for the challenge will receive hands-on assistance from a volunteer to help them track and monitor energy usage, so there is a real benefit to joining the challenge early.
The Town of Cary’s fire department was also among those recognized in the 2012 National Building Competition. The fire department saw an energy reduction of over 10 percent.
Registration for the 2013 National Building Competition, EPA’s fourth such competition, is open now through May 31st. Informational webinars will be held on May 7 and May 22.
Congratulations to Fire Chief Allan Cain and the entire Town of Cary!
